CBM is an international Christian development organization, committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in low income regions of the world.

CBM has Member Associations raising funds and awareness of disability issues in ten countries worldwide.

We do this by working with disabled people, their families and their communities to:

Ensure the right to an inclusive education Support disabled people in earning an independent living
Reduce the incidence of disability Promote inclusion in all social activities
Ensure timely and appropriate medical support    
By:

Encouraging and supporting disabled people in forming local community organizations and self-help groups, and in accessing their rights and entitlements

Providing educational support to over 130 disabled children and young adults through the Prereana Educational Centre, including residential schooling to 40 visually impaired children Advocating on behalf of disabled people 

During the past twenty years NBCD has demonstrated a steady record of growth and achievement, and is currently:

In partnership with CBM (The Christofel Blinden Mission), providing a range of academic and vocational education and rehabilitation services to over 130 students through the Prerana Educational Centre near Siliguri

In partnership with ActionAid, providing community-based rehabilitation and support to over 4,000 people with disabilities and their families in the Siliguri area, including facilitating the formation of 130 village-level self-advocacy groups and their federation at Panchayat, Block and District level

In partnership with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) India and the National Trust of the Government of India, piloting the National Volunteering Scheme with 12 local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) in North Bengal

In partnership with VSO India, taking forward the International NGO Partnership Agreement Programme (IPAP) project with six local NGOs across North Bengal

Founded by two of the current Executive Committee members, NBCD has a strong and experienced team of staff and volunteers, many of whom have worked with NBCD for over ten years and are themselves disabled.

The North Bengal Council for the Disabled (NBCD) is a Registered Society under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961.

NBCD is also registered with the Disabilities Commissioner, the Government of West Bengal, the Department of Mass Education, the Government of West Bengal, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Government of India.

Based in the city of Siliguri in North Bengal, NBCD works with local organizations in five of the twelve Districts of the State of West Bengal, and is currently supporting over 6,000 disabled people.
